When IPL is used to treat spider veins (also called telangiectasia) and broken capillaries, the light creates heat in the veins. This causes the vein walls to collapse and scar tissue to form. Eventually, these veins are reabsorbed by the body and disappear after a few weeks.
IPL is a very effective way to treat a range of vascular issues including broken capillaries and spider veins, rosacea and cherry angiomas.
Broken capillaries, also known as telangiectasia, can be caused by a variety of factors. One common cause is sun damage, which weakens the walls of blood vessels over time, making them more prone to breaking. Additionally, genetics can play a role, as some individuals may inherit a predisposition to developing broken capillaries. Other contributing factors include aging, hormonal changes, certain medical conditions such as rosacea, and lifestyle habits like excessive alcohol consumption or smoking. Environmental factors like harsh weather conditions or exposure to pollutants can also contribute to the development of broken capillaries. Understanding the underlying causes can help in prevention and management strategies, such as sun protection, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and seeking appropriate skincare treatments.
The IPL device will emit controlled pulses of light onto the targeted areas of broken capillaries. You may feel a slight snapping or warming sensation as the light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels. The process is repeated across the treatment area, covering all affected areas comprehensively.
No, you may have some mild swelling and redness in the treated area which should subside within 24-48 hours. We do recommend avoiding hot showers, saunas, spas and strenuous exercise for 48 hours post treatment. SPF 50 plus is an absolute essential. You should be able to go back to all other normal activities immediately after treatment.
The number of treatments will vary between individuals but anywhere between 1 and 6 treatments may be needed. We recommend that these treatments are spaced 7-10 days apart to avoid the vessels re-establishing themselves.
